About Amadeus

“Not quite a local. Not quite a tourist. Somewhere in between — like the château.”

I’m Amadeus Pawlica — dancer, renovator, writer, and storyteller behind Le Demi Château. I live in the south-west of France in half a historic building that’s becoming my home, my creative studio, and my ongoing work-in-progress.

I’m not here to sell you a perfect life in the countryside. I’m here to show what happens when you take a risk, change countries, close one chapter, and begin again — quietly, imperfectly, and with your own sense of beauty.

Where I’m From

I was born in Poland and grew up in Germany, learning to move between languages, cultures, and ideas from an early age. It taught me how to observe, how to adapt, and how to find meaning in places that don’t always belong to just one identity.

Dance and the Body

My background is in classical ballet — I trained at the Akademie des Tanzes in Mannheim and the Royal Ballet School in London. I spent many years onstage across Europe, later working as a choreographer and yoga teacher. Movement still shapes how I think, create, and see the world.

The Move to France

In 2022, I bought part of a château with my now ex-husband, with the idea of a holiday escape. Life had other plans. After a separation, I moved in full-time. The house was unfinished. So was I. But this place became a new beginning — and the foundation for the work I do today.

What I Do Now

I document the story of Le Demi Château on YouTube, organize a Dance Festival, and host the occasional retreat in this evolving space I call home.

I believe in beauty that doesn’t try too hard. In care as a creative act. In choosing slower rhythms over polished outcomes. And in making space — both online and offline — for people to feel welcome, even if just for a moment.
